After our Speed Dating activity that we did about a week ago I was completely set on what I wanted to do for a topic for my STEM project. Talking amongst my peers and hearing what they had to say was very helpful to what I could do to work on the progress of my project. I received a lot of good advice from my peers. They told me things like to talk to local beekeepers, the Montshire Museum and look into what kind of impact that bees have on the economy and the environment.
I was given the name of a man that runs a apiary in Proctor Vermont Named Sam Davine. I will talk to him about what is happening with the bees and how he feels about it and if there are any alternatives to it. The Montshire Museum has a great deal of bees and somebody there could help me learn about them and what they do and how they affect the economy and environment. Animals in zoos are never comfortable because they don't have large enclosures to roam climb hunt forage or choose a partner. Zoos buy and sell animals causing them to be separated from their families or mates which causes emotional and psychological damage to the animal. Breeding these animals can be profitable for the zoo but once the novelty of the newborn wears off it's future is bleak. The newborn is given the star treatment and then once the public stops going in to see it they feel a sense of neglect and do not adapt well to living in the zoo after that.
There are thousands of honey bees dying all over the world especially in Europe because Farmers are using an insecticide called neonicotinoid. Neonicotinoid is a drug similar to tobacco that slowly poisons bees and can kill the whole hive of it is spread from bee to bee.
